Node 1. The PLW protocol are the steps that a survey team should take when they are in a household with an eligible PLW (i.e., mother with a child less than 6 months old or woman who is currently pregnant in her 2nd and 3rd trimester). It is possible that a mother with a child that is eligible for the mother and child protocol is herself eligible for the PLW protocol. This is the case when a mother who has an older child age 6-59 months and either has a younger child who is less than 6 months old or is currently pregnant. For such cases, the mother and child protocol is administered first and then all other information that is specific to the PLW status of the mother is then elicited afterwards.
Node 2. The mother and child protocol are the steps that a survey team should take when they are in a household with an eligible child (i.e., child age 6-59 months). It is a mother and child protocol because the mother is also a respondent (even if she is not a PLW), providing related health and nutrition information that can be used as co-variates or explanatory variables for the child’s current condition.
